  • STROUDSBURG - Skip Mendler of Honesdale will present a program entitled, "Preventing American Fascism" on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Poconos,  940A Ann Street in Stroudsburg.
His presentation, based on a forthcoming book on the subject, will explore the origins and meanings of the word "fascism," the traits of fascist states, and practical strategies that citizens can use to counteract the development of fascism in the USA.
Mendler suggests a "public health" model, that views fascism as a "disease of the body politic" with not only identifiable symptoms, but also specific means of prevention.
A Quaker, Green Party activist and co-founder of Waynepeace, Skip also writes the "Peace and Justice Files" column for the River Reporter, an Upper Delaware River Valley publication. All are welcome, child care will be provided, and refreshments will be available following the service.
