HONESDALE - Western Wayne High School student, Sarah Bifano, donated a check for $535.75 to the Wayne County Public Library recently.
Each graduating senior is required to do a Senior Project. The requirements differ from one school district to the next but the purpose is the same...to prepare students to take on independent projects which will enhance the lives of others in their community. Sarah decided that her love of reading was a natural lead in to doing something to benefit the library.
Sarah met with library staff to present her fund raising plan and find out what would work for her schedule as well as the library's. "We were very impressed with Sarah," said Library Director Tracy Schwarz. "She came in with a plan and had a good idea of what she wanted to do, we assisted with information and handouts, Sarah did all the rest!"
She spent time volunteering at the library, met with staff regarding fund raising and outreach, and learned as much as possible about the library so she could not only raise funds, but present information about free resources like Tutor.com, Teen Health and Wellness and Mango Language Learning  which are available through the library's website www.waynelibraries.org to anyone who had library related questions.
Sarah held two yard sales and sold books at Waystock to raise money and spread the word about the library. She was thrilled to present the library with a check Friday Aug. 15.  The Wayne County Public Library was delighted to not only have Sarah's assistance but to have a new Waymart advocate for libraries, as well.  Sarah's donation will be put toward new books, e-books, and other e-resources just in time for students heading back to school.
