  • Stephen Sondheim recently announced that his original musical "Into the Woods" will be censored for a family-friendly audience in his collaborative efforts with Disney on their new adaptation of the film set to come out Christmas Day.When Sondheim met with a group of high school theater teachers in New York last week, questions were raised about how to clean up the original script for a high school audience.According to the New Yorker, Sondheim revealed that Disney also posed concerns about tailoring the tale toward their audience, and decided to cut out all sexual content and one major death.“You know, if I were a Disney executive I would probably say the same thing,” Sondheim told the teachers.Sondheim also told teachers the song "Any Moment" would likely be cut out, but after he saw the rough cut of the film following his meeting with the teachers, he reported the song was left in the show, according to Cinema Blend."I can happily report that it is not only a faithful adaptation of the show, it is a first-rate movie," Sondheim said.The musical "Into the Woods" debuted at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986.According to Playbill Vault, the story blends four original Grimm brothers' stories, including "Little Red Riding Hood," "Cinderella," "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Rapunzel." The musical also includes an original story of a baker and his wife.According to IMDB, many well-known actors will appear in Disney's interpretation.Meryl Streep will assume the role of The Witch, Johnny Depp will act the part of The Wolf and Chris Pine will play Cinderella's Prince.Emily Blunt and Anna Kendrick are also casted as The Baker's Wife and Cinderella.
