June 29 brings the Wayne Choralaires back to Central Park in Honesdale.
This group is as old as the Wayne County Creative Arts Council which sponsored their first concert in 1967 as the Wayne County Mixed Chorus directed by Maxine Reifler. The group has grown since then to a chorus of 60-70 members directed by Partricia Spoor and accompanied by Martha Heinly.
This year’s concert has a very definite gospel and jazz feel with such numbers as “Go Down Moses,” “Swing Down Chariot,” and “Summertime.” Also featured is a medley from “South Pacific,” “Canticle of Praise,” “Russian Picnic,” and a gospel rendition of an American trilogy incorporating “My Country Tis of Thee,” “America the Beautiful,” and “This is My Country.”
On a lighter note the Choralaires will take the audience back to radio days with a vocal performance of the “William Tell Overture.” The finale will be the wonderful song “One World” by Mark Hayes.
The concert will begin at 7:30 pm, but come early to stake out a good place on the lawn with your chair or blanket. Refreshments will be available. The concert is free, but a free will collection will be made.
In case of inclement weather the performance will move to the Episcopal Parish Hall adjacent to the Park.
