Hawley Parade Steps Off at 12 Noon Friday

The annual Independence Day Parade Friday, July 4, in downtown Hawley Borough, just west of Lake Wallenpaupack, steps off at 12 noon and the line up features music by the Dixieland All Stars and the Penn Dixie Band.

Mayor Ann R. Morgan, who coordinates the event, said all veterans service units are honored as grand marshals of the annual parade. The mayor provided the following line up for the Independence Day Parade, Friday:

The first division of the parade will be led by police units from the following towns and agencies: State Police at Honesdale and Blooming Grove, Hawley Borough, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Honesdale Borough, Waymart Borough and Forest City Township, Hemlock Farms public safety, Moscow and Jefferson Township Police, the DCNR Delaware State Forest Rangers and the Hawley Crime Watch.

Division two begins with the Dixieland All-Star Band followed by the parade grand marshals — the veterans service units — and the Massed Colors of the Hawley American Legion and  Veterans of Foreign Wars with their Ladies Auxiliary units.

Next, the veterans marching groups and Massed Colors by Hawley American Legion Post 311 are followed by Tobyhanna Army Depot, the Wayne-Pike Detachment of the Marines Corps League, U.S. Army of One, American Legion Post 311 Auxiliary, Hawley VFW Post Auxiliary, Veteran Marching Groups lead by William Wycoff.

The column continues with Hawley Mayor Ann R. Morgan, Honesdale Borough Council members, Navy Capt. Maurice Meagher, Wayne County Coroner Carol Leinert, Hawley Borough Council, Wayne County Court House officials, the Palmyra Township (Wayne County) Supervisors, the Honorable District Attorney Michael Luhutsky, Hawley Borough and Street Department and the Civil Air Patrol.

The third division of the parade leads off with the Penn Dixie Band followed by Antique Cars, Wallenpaupack Historical Society, Honesdale National Bank Float, Sons of Norway Float, Wayne-Delaware Manor van, Weichert Realtors Paupack Group, Wayne County Dairy Princess, the Silhouette Twirlers, Boy Scouts of American and the Little League.

The fourth division brings the Mackay back into the line-up followed by the Wayne County Council of Republican Women, and a contingent of youngsters from the Hawley United Methodist Church. Next, is the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, Woodloch Pines Float, the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, In memory of “Bee Power, Seminars for Women,” Big Brother/Big Sister Program, the Wayne-Pike Shrine Club, The Hawley-Lake Wallenpaupack Lions Club, member of the Beach Lake Free Methodist Church, the Hawley Garage, D&V Licenses, the Honesdale Area Jaycees, and the Girl Scouts.

Division five features fire department apparatus from the throughout the region on parade. The following companies plan to participate: Hawley, White Mills, Honesdale, Lakeville, Tafton, Forest, Blooming Grove, Waymart, Central, Madisonville, Hamlin, Hemlock Farms and Greene-Dreher, Gouldsboro, Seelyville and Greeley

DONORS WELCOME

Division six begins with  B&B Dodge escorting veterans marching groups, Wayne County Habitat for Humanity, “Relay for Life,” “Smokey Bear,” a float by the Dime Bank and Bold Gold Media Group, Pocono Auto Works, Hawley Knights of Columbus, Queen of Peace RC Church Altar and Rosary Society, and the Dessin Animal Shelter friends.

The division seven starts with a float from Caesar’s Cove Haven Resort, the Wayne County Senior Citizen Action Centers, Watson Bros. Gas Cars and Pioneer Power, followed by Soap Box Derby racers from the Hawley 500, Wal-Mart, Paupack Fuel, Lake Region and Hawley Market IGA, AARP, “The Village Square Adviser.”

The parade conclude with the ambulances from Hawley and White Mills, Honesdale EMS Bike Patrol, The East Penn Search and Rescue Team, Tobyhanna and other communities.

Mayor Morgan offered thanks to the many people who support and participate in the annual parades in Hawley. She also thanked those who make monetary donations to help offset the costs associated with sponsoring such events. She said donors are still welcome.
