The Hawley Local History Group is having its next meeting on Thursday evening, May 15, 7 pm in the Hawley Public Library.
The principal speaker for the program will be Hawley native, Tom Sheridan, who will discuss the early development of Hawley - “Hawley As It Was in the 1800s.”
Sheridan is a sixth generation native of the community — with his ancestors having arrived here before the building of the D & H Canal in the 1820s. One of the many topics of his presentation will be an explanation on how and why the different sections of town got their names.
The meeting is free-of-charge and open to anyone who would like to learn more about the early history of Hawley.
Also to be discussed on this evening will be preparations for the next public display to be arranged in the local history showcase at the Hawley Library — a pictorial display of the churches of Hawley.
