Hawley Parade Steps Off at 12 Noon Saturday

Hawley, Pa. -

The annual Independence Day Parade Saturday, July 4, in downtown Hawley Borough, just west of Lake Wallenpaupack, steps off at 12 noon and the line up features music by the Dixieland All Stars and the MacKay Band.

Mayor Ann R. Morgan, who coordinates the event, said all veterans service units are honored as grand marshals of the annual parade. The mayor provided the following line up for the Independence Day Parade, Saturday:

The first division of the parade will be led by police units from the following towns and agencies: State Police at Honesdale with Cpl. Robbins and a “Special Unit” and State Police at Blooming Grove, Hawley Borough, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Honesdale Borough, Waymart Borough, Forest City and Jefferson Township, Hawley Crime Watch and Penny Lane Candy Bike.

Division two begins with the Dixieland All-Star Band followed by the parade grand marshals — the veterans service units — and the Massed Colors of the Hawley American Legion.

Next, the veterans marching groups and Massed Colors by Hawley American Legion Post 311 are followed by U.S. Navy, U.S. Army of One, the Wayne-Pike Detachment of the Marines Corps League, American Legion Post 311 Auxiliary, Honesdale VFW Post and VFW Post Auxiliary, Veteran Marching Groups lead by William Wycoff and Tobyhanna Army Depot.

The column continues with State representative Mike Peifer, District Attorney Michael Luhutsky, Wayne County Courthouse officials, Wayne County Coroner Carol Leinert,District Magistrate Bonnie Carney, Hawley Mayor Ann R. Morgan, Hawley Borough Council, Honesdale Borough Council, the Palmyra Township (Wayne County) Supervisors, and the Civil Air Patrol.

The third division of the parade leads off with Antique Cars, followed by Wallenpaupack Historical Society, Honesdale National Bank Float, Sons of Norway Float, Wayne-Delaware Manor van, Red Hat Ladies, Silhoutte Twirlers, Boy Scouts of American, Girls Scouts of America, Little League and Mark Steelman.

The fourth division brings the Mackay followed by the Wayne County Council of Republican Women. Next, is the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, C.L.E.A.R., Woodloch Pines Float, the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Michael O’Day, the Wayne-Pike Shrine Club, The Hawley-Lake Wallenpaupack Lions Club,  Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Mascot “Champ,” Pocono Pet Mobile, and Go Joe XII St. Joseph’s Center, Adult Literacy, Beach Lake Free Maethodist Church; Hawley Garage, , D&M Licenses, American Red Cross and Cheerleaders Wallenpaupack High School.

Division five features fire department apparatus from the throughout the region on parade. The following companies plan to participate: Hawley, White Mills, Honesdale, Lakeville, Tafton, Forest, Blooming Grove, Waymart, Central, Madisonville, Hamlin, Hemlock Farms and Greene-Dreher, Gouldsboro, Seelyville and Greeley.

Division six begins with  B&B Dodge escorting veterans marching groups, Pocono Auto Works, Wayne County Habitat for Humanity, “Relay for Life,” a float by the Dime Bank,  Bold Gold Media Group float, American Red Cross, Hawley Knights of Columbus, and the Dessin Animal Shelter friends.

The division seven starts with the MacKay Band returning to the lineup, the Wayne County Senior Citizen Action Centers, Soap Box Derby racers from the Hawley Smokin’  500, Watson Bros. Gas Cars and Pioneer Power, followed by Diehl Lawn Service Float, Paupack Fuel, Lake Region and Hawley Market IGA, Wal-Mart, Harry Bodine Professional Cleaner and NAPA.

The parade concludes with the ambulances from Hawley and White Mills, Honesdale EMS Bike Patrol, The East Penn Search and Rescue Team, Tobyhanna and other communities and a motorcycle group.

Mayor Morgan offered thanks to the many people who support and participate in the annual parades in Hawley. She also thanked those who make monetary donations to help offset the costs associated with sponsoring such events. She said donors are still welcome.
