A Michigan couple were driving on the freeway in Dearborn, Mich., when they saw a kitten tossed from a speeding car. Ronald Haas and Niel Rishoi quickly stopped and picked up the kitten, who surprisingly was OK other than being “scared and panicked.” The couple then adopted her and named her Dora.
Saint Dominc’s Academy, located at 329 Cliff Street, Honesdale, (the former St. Vincent’s School building) will be holding an open house for their new pre-school program, which will commence this September.

Several Prime Time Health coordinators, exercise instructors or administrators from throughout the Northeast PA region recently attended a training for the Healthy Steps Falls prevention program at the Luzerne-Wyoming County Aging office in Wilkes-Barre. This program was designed by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
The Upper Delaware GLBT Center (UDGLBT) has announced Wigsticks Fairy Tales, a drag show feature at the Milford Theatre (114 E. Catherine Street) on Saturday, May 19. The show will again feature the illustrious Steady Mess and her troupe of performers.

Join Nick Spinelli, Executive Director of the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management District for a wetland hike and a sweet aquifer treat. Find out what makes wetlands such valuable parts of our natural world and learn about the neat creatures that callthem home. Following the hike, a demonstration of how our drinking water aquifers function will be served.

Get an early jump on the boating season by taking a safe boating course. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's eight-hour boating safety class gives boaters practical information so they can make more informed decisions on the water.
Topics include boat terminology, legal requirements, water activities, and safety and rescue. Students who pass the exam at the end of the daylong course can apply for their boating safety education certificate from the commission. This certificate will enable people to operate personal watercraft. Please bring your own lunch and snacks for the day.

The Greater Honesdale Partnership is looking for talented craft vendors, antique dealers, artists and artisans to participate in their upcoming “Festival of the Arts”. The event will be held on Honesdale’s Main Street on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 5: p.m. And Sunday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
They are also looking for groups or individuals that are eager to set up demonstrations on their particular “art”. Beekeepers, florists, wine makers, woodcarvers and gardeners, are some examples.
There will be a lot of activity up and down Main Street during this event and GHP welcomes you to be a part of it. The event is being heavily marketed and should draw a big crowd, said Gail M. A special memorial service to honor those who died in Hawley during the great flood of May 22-23, 1942, is scheduled Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. The service is at the First Presbyterian Church, Hawley, led by Rev. William Saunders.
The service has been arranged by the Wallenpaupack Historical Society, which has also just published a commemorative book on the 70th anniversary of the Hawley flood. The deluge in the Lackawaxen River corridor affected Honesdale and White Mills as well, with a total of 24 people who perished.

SR 2024 (Main Street/Maffett Street) is closed between James Musto Bypass and Thompson Street in Jenkins due to flooding. Anticipated reopening is today (Tuesday May 15) at 4:30 p.m., PennDOT reports.

Exit 184 (Moosic Street) to Exit 182 (Davis Street/Montage Mountain Road) - As part of a $16.5 million bridge replacement project, a contractor for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will resume placing beams on the St. Mary's/Cemetery Bridge, PennDOT reports.
A man says he was bitten by a rattlesnake at a Wal-Mart in eastern Washington state. The man was in the outdoor gardening area and said he bent down to pick up a stick, but it turned out to be a rattlesnake. The snake wasn’t happy about being picked up and so bit the man, who was rushed to a hospital. The man survived but might have permanent damage to his hand.
On May 8 at 10 a.m. a man’s gold ring with a round cut diamond was found at Xtra-Mart on SR 739, Lords Valley. Anyone with information concerning the found item should contact PSP Blooming Grove at (570) 226-5718.

Between midnight and 7:30 a.m. on May 12 an incident of criminal mischief took place at the 100 block of Gap View Circle, Lehman Township. The victim related that when he came outside that morning he observed his car to be covered in toilet paper, onion dip, waffles and a sticky substance. He said he didn’t hear anything during the period of occurrence.
As of May 11, Dillon Sullivan, 18 of Greentown, is wanted in connection to several burglaries in the Greene Township area. He is 5’9”, 145 pounds, and has blonde hair and green eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call PSP Blooming Grove at (570) 226-5718.
Between 5:30 p.m. May 10 and 6 a.m. May 11 six vehicle/equipment batteries were taken from Hansen Aggregates, Inc., Lake Township. The total value for the batteries is $600.

PSP Blooming Grove is investigating a burglary that took place between Nov. 22, 2011 and May 7 at 1433 Lakeland Drive, within the Lakeland Colony Development, Paupack Township.
