WALLENPAUPACK -A special board meeting of the Wallenpaupack Area School District was convened Wednesday, March 26. In the wake of the late winter blizzard, changes were needed for the school calendar, and a refinancing decision was made.
Classes were called off Tuesday through Friday, March 14-19, thanks to the two feet of snow that fell on the 14th and the long cleanup that was required on area roads. The Easter break was impacted, and in order to keep the June 16th graduation on schedule, seniors will be required to go to school on Saturday, June 10.
The board approved the following calendar:Friday, April 14, 2017 (Good Friday) Early Dismissal Day for both students and staff Monday, April 17, 2017 Full Day of School for both students and staff Saturday, June 10, 2017 School Day for Seniors only Monday, June 19, 2017 Early Dismissal Day for both students and staff.
June 19th was added to the class schedule; only kindergarten through 11th grade will need to attend school that day. There were 13 cancellation days and the district was only able to make up 12, so a day had to be added.
The Board approved a motion authorizing the adoption of a resolution setting forth its intent to issue one or more series of General Obligation Bonds.
Superintendent Michael Silsby stated that the refinancing of current debt will save the school district approximately $200,000. The district was able to take advantage of lower interest rates.
The General Obligation Bonds have an aggregate principal amount not to exceed $11,750,000.
The next regular meeting of the Wallenpaupack school board is scheduled Monday, April 10 at 6 p.m. in the High School Library. A committee meeting precedes it at 5:30 p.m., which is also open to the public. An executive session, closed to the public, is set for 4:30 p.m.
