Hawley Public Library’s speaker series, Unique Pathways, continues at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 with Brian Cobb, owner of the Irving Cliff Brewery in Honesdale.
Born and raised in Honesdale, Brian Cobb attended Honesdale High School and then pursued a Graphic Arts degree at Rochester Institute of Technology. For the next twenty years, he manufactured ink and silk screen supplies in Honesdale. When he sold the manufacturing business in 2012 to a Scranton company, he was left with the empty building.
Brian knew little about the brewery business, but that did not stop him. He became self-taught, mainly by taking on-line courses, and opened in 2015 with the name of the original brewery that began in 1851. It is now a thriving business with a full-time brew master and produces 600 gallons of ale at a time. Brian also silk screens t-shirts and designs on bottles for restaurants and breweries.
He will share his personal story, as well as talk about how beer is made. He will be bringing samples of hops, different types of barley and, of course, the finished product for the audience to sample - 21 years and older!
