WALLENPAUPACK - During Ag Literacy Week, Susann  “Susie” George visited the Wallenpaupack North Primary School, where she read to students about farmers and what their jobs entail.

After reading a book to one class, George who is a retired educator, completed an activity relative to farming with the students. George offered the students a few different books she could read and one, included an emphasis on how food gets from the farm to the table. Often times, George told the students that people don’t think about who is involved in the process of food getting to consumers.

The various classrooms each received the book George read to the students. As she read one book, George discussed the different machinery drawn in the book, with some that are used to plow the ground and plant the seeds. George read a sentence or two, took a moment to discuss what she was reading and it was then, that many children shared their own stories relative to what she was reading.

This is George’s 12th year in retirement and going back into the classroom was something she really enjoyed, as the students were “enthusiastic” and “delightful” she said.
