MILFORD - Pike County Alliance for Prevention Programs has a limited supply of medication available, meant to reverse overdose from heroin and other opioids. The Alliance is providing it to local ambulance companies on a first come, first serve basis.
Jill Gamboni explained at the Pike County Commissioners’ meeting, May 3rd, that the Alliance received a grant for 13 kits of Naloxone medication, used to save lives. $1,000 was received from the Greater Pike Community Foundation, which annually awards allocations to nonprofit organizations from the the Barbara J. Buchanan Endowment.
The first donation of a Naloxone kit was presented to the Delaware Township Volunteer Ambulance Company. The donation was made at the Reality Tour program, April 20th at the Milford Bible Church. The Alliance hosts the Reality Tour twice in the spring, providing a powerful presentation using dramatic scenes of the effects of drug abuse on young people, and what families can do to prevent it or get help. Delaware Township Volunteer Ambulance has been a long time supporter of the Reality Tour, said Gamboni, who coordinates the program locally.
The Alliance does not have enough kits for all local ambulance companies, she said. Each kit provides enough dosage to treat one person experiencing an overdose. The were purchased at a 50% discount, Chairman Matthew Osterberg of the Board of Commissioners, said. The kits cost $150 if they were purchased at a pharmacy, he stated.
Naloxone has an expiration date, and the medication can be costly for ambulance companies to keep in stock, she said. Osterberg said that donations are welcome to the Pike County Alliance for Prevention Programs, to help them purchase more kits.
Any Pike County ambulance company that is is need of Naloxone can call Jill Gamboni at 570-390-9102 or email email@example.com.
The next Reality Tour is scheduled for Thursday, May 18 from 6 to 9 p..m. at the Milford Bible Church. Registration is required. For information and to register visit online at www.pikepa.org or www.realitytour.org.
