WALLENPAUPACK - On May 21, 2017, Wallenpaupack Career Coordinator Mrs. Colleen Edwards arranged for Wallenpaupack students to job shadow at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
These four students who are interested in the medical field shadowed in Same Day Surgery, Acute Care Nursing, and with Physician Assistant Amber Klein, and Internal Medicine Physician Dr. Linn. Freshman Emily Tait observed Registered Nurse Mary Grimes prepare patients for surgery.
Emily was also able to tour Maternity, Post-op, and Maternity. Additionally, sophomore Melanie Williams accompanied Dr. Linn as he visited his patients and monitored their progress. Afterward, Dr. Linn updated their medical records. Emily commented, "This experience reassured me that the medical field is where I belong."
Sophomore Annarose McLaughlin learned about the procedures in Acute Care, including using the up-to-date technologies to document patient information.
Lastly, sophomore Jessica Cardone shadowed Physician Assistant Amber Klein. Jessica learned about documenting patient's medical information, patient visits, and their discharges.
Furthermore, Amber provided her educational background and her passion for her work:
"PA Klein encouraged me to explore the various specialties to discover what truly interests me,” Amber said. She added that there always is something new every day, and it is so rewarding to help others. “This job shadow has helped me to see daily life as a physician assistant."
