PALMYRA TWP. (Pike) - A moment of silence was held for Donal S. Coutts at the May 2, 2017 meeting of the Palmyra Township (Pike) Board of Supervisors.

Coutts, who died April 20th at the age of 88, was the Township Historian. Donal S. Coutts was very active in this role, who in 2007 published a hefty, 351 page account of the history of the Township. In 1989 he was appointed as Township Historian, and was a founding member and past president of the Palmyra, Pike/ Wallenpaupack Historical Society (later shortened to Wallenpaupack Historical Society - WHS). The Society was incorporated in 1998.

His book on the township history has been hailed by the WHS as an “invaluable resource” in chronicling early history of the township and historical accounts that without Coutts’ diligence, would have been lost. He also wrote a story of his church, Paupack United Methodist Church.

The Upper Delaware Heritage Association honored him in 1999 for his role in preservation of local history.

In 2004 Don was awarded the inaugural “Founders Award” by the Wallenpaupack Historical Society. The organization maintains permanent exhibits at the Township offices.

Supervisor Ken Coutts is a nephew to Donal Coutts.
