HAWLEY - Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance has set their 11th Annual Meeting for Tuesday, May 23 at The Dock at Silver Birches in Tafton. The theme is “Entrepreneurship - A pathway to prosperity in NEPA.”

During the past few years, those following rural development trends and strategies have heard a lot about the need to encourage entrepreneurial activity in rural communities.

Many leading researchers in the rural development field have expressed this need, and as policymakers and rural development practitioners strive to develop strategies to sustain rural economies, increasing entrepreneurship has risen to the top of the list. Entrepreneurship is traditionally defined as the process of designing, launching and running a new business which typically begins as a small business, such as a startup company, offering a product, process or service for sale or hire.

Wayne and Pike Counties are home to many successful entrepreneurs. With over 80 percent of businesses having less than 10 employees, Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance has long provided training and support systems to assist small businesses.

Don Webster, the Executive Director of TecBRIDGE will discuss entrepreneurship and ask: “Why not us? Why not here? Why not now?” Panelists will share their experiences. The panelists include:
Christine Augustine – No Limits Physical Therapy
Ellen Clauss – Aya Fair Trade
Jeanne & Peter Arnold – K9 Bedbug Detection Services
Heather McGinley – HM Metal Works
Lynn Voorhees – Pear Enterprises, Inc.

Discussion will be facilitated by Ken Okrepkie, Regional Manager of Ben Franklin Technology Partners.

Registration and a breakfast buffet will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. This will be followed by a program from 8:30 to 10 a.m., and facilitated discussion from 10 to 11 a.m.

The cost is $20.00, cash or check or $21 with a credit card (includes processing fee). Registration is included.
