PALMYRA TWP. (Wayne)  - One cannot help but notice something very large, rising in the landscape of “downtown Palmyra Township” - just beyond historic Hawley Borough on Route 6 on the way to the Big Lake.  Motorists can daily watch the progress of this large commercial building, on the spot where the long-closed Arby’s Restaurant stood.

This is the Wallenpaupack Brewery Company.

The owners are Becky Ryman and her brother Chris Ryman. Asked for an update, Becky stated that they do not have an opening date set, but are working toward an opening sometime in the summer of 2017. She said they have a very aggressive construction schedule. Dakan Enterprises of Honesdale is the general contractor.

On the right side as seen from the highway, is the two-story industrial section, where the craft beer will be produced. They will have a 20 barrel capacity. (A barrel of beer contains 31 gallons.)

On the left side is the brew pub where she said they will serve year-round and seasonal beers along with food offerings to highlight and accompany what they brew. In addition, wine will be served from a featured Pennsylvania winery. A children’s menu will also be available.

The building contains 9,771 square feet. An outdoor seating area is planned off to the left side of the brew pub. There are spots for 52 vehicles on the parking plan. There will be separate ingress and egress from Route 6.

The address is 73 Welwood Ave., Hawley.

On May 19th, engineering students from Wallenpaupack Area High School, accompanied by their instructor, Mr. Heckman, visited the construction site. They were given a tour by representatives of the local engineering company Kiley Associates, and Dakan Enterprises.

On March 23rd, the former Arby’s restaurant was taken down. Steel girders started going up for the brewery on April 24th.

Their Facebook page has over 2,100 followers.

Becky stated that they do not have information at this time on how many people they expect to employ. Information and updates regarding their opening and hiring process will be posted on their Facebook page and at their web site: www.wallenpaupackbrewingco.com.
