DUNMORE - State Police at Dunmore have announced the launch of the @PSPTroopR Twitter account that will be used to get information out to the public in communities throughout Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike and Susquehanna Counties through the Troops Public Information office.
Until now, PA State Police Twitter and Facebook accounts have been in use through Department Headquarters in Harrisburg for all of Pennsylvania but this new account will assist Troopers in Troop R connect with the communities they directly cover on a more local level.
There are many positive activities that the State Police engage in that are largely unknown to the public. This account will allow Troop R to get positive event and activity information out to the public as well as being a proven resource for fighting crime and updating the public on ongoing incidents and emergencies. Social media has become one of the fastest means of transmitting information to people and Troop R is hopeful that being active on Twitter, and eventually branching out to other social media, will help State Police be a more interactive participant in the communities they cover. Social media has become a great way of getting people involved with helping police by providing valuable information through public knowledge, working together to help everyone in need and ultimately bettering our communities.
The account will not be monitored 24/7 so Troopers are asking people with information to report, based on Tweets, contact the appropriate State Police barracks for that county by phone.
