LACKAWAXEN - The First Lackawaxen Music Festival, is scheduled Saturday, June 17, an event to raise money for local charities.

The bands will perform between 3 and 11 p.m. art the Lackawaxen Fire Pavilion, Route 590 in the village of Lackawaxen. A special train ride is scheduled to bring passengers to the festival.

Lenny Groper, organizer of the festival, said this first event will benefit the Lackawaxen Fire Department; American Legion Wilson-Kelch Post 311 in Hawley; Wayne county Food Pantry and the pantry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

If successful, he said he would like to expand the festival next year and give to other fire companies.
The festival’s mission statement is posted on their website: “We are a group of citizens who believe that by helping the community, we can help teach new values and goals to ultimately bring forward a better society.”

Bands and musicians featured include:

Randy Jackson, lead singer of ZEBRA playing solo and acoustic, 12-string versions of Led Zep, Bowie, The Doors, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and ZEBRA. Wonderous Stories, playing Yes, ELP, Genesis, The Who and other progressive rock greats. This band has been the top cover band since 1994 on Long Island and New York City. Blue Ruin, winner of New York Blues Challenge. This group has played the greatest blues and southern rock since 1985. What’s His Face, a local funk band, includes young and polished up-and-coming artists. Silver Meteor is a local favorite, and plays everything. Special guests are also planned.

The festival ticket price is $25.00 per person; cash only at the door.  Food and drink will be available at the concession stand. A 50/50 raffle will be held.

Stourbridge Line train rides up the Lackawaxen River corridor will depart from Lackawaxen. The cost $5 per person with a festival ticket, or $10 per person without a festival ticket. Children under 10 ride free (limit one child per paying adult). Train departure times are 3:15, 4:15 and 5:15 p.m.

VIP seating is available, including catering meals for 10 by top NYC/Hampton chefs, beer and wine at your table with waiting services, a greta view and access to the stage and bands, and a 3:15 p.m. train ride with Randy Jackson of the group ZEBRA while you ride. The cost is $750 per section.
