National Night Night is this Tuesday, August 1st!  Hosted by Hawley Police Department and the Borough, this community has been celebrating the event with a free barbecue for everyone, for about 20 years. If your town doesn’t participate in National Night Out, they should think about it!

It’s a national observance, traditionally held on the first Tuesday in August. The purpose is to promote crime prevention and foster good relations with the local police.

They do both of these in Hawley, and it’s more than that.
Come and enjoy the barbecue from 6 to 8 p.m. over by the bandstand in Bingham Park.

For many years it was held in front of Borough Hall. Since heading to the park a few years ago, the event has grown. Now they have a dunk tank, a scavenger hunt, zumba (7 p.m.), yoga (6:30 p.m.), tours of the local Magisterial Court (Borough Hall building), a car seat check (6-6:30 p.m.), k-9 demo (thanks to Waymart Police), rock painting, over 15 exhibitors and new this year - StorySLAM!

“StorySLAM” starts at 7:15 p.m. Registered participants will share a positive, true story about Hawley Police or other police agency, in three to five minutes. Prizes will be awarded!

Hats off to Andrea Racht, Borough Secretary/Treasurer for all her work putting this together, and other borough staff and volunteers. Thank you to Chief Dan Drake who has promoted this event all these years. Thank you to local businesses for their donations. Special thank you to the GOOD SPORTS who have volunteered for the dunk tank!
National Night Out- Hawley edition helps reflect what a great, small town this is. The community comes together for a good cause and celebrates being neighbors, being united in the hope to rid this town of crime and drugs. By our participation, it is a time as well to pause to say THANK YOU to our Hawley Borough Police. They do a great job and we’re so glad they’re part of us!
