HAWLEY - Hawley Rotarian President Steven Bauer presented two donations of $1210.00 each to support the local food pantry voucher programs at the Hawley United Methodist Church and the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hawley.
These organizations give individuals in need, vouchers for purchase of fresh foods. Both voucher programs, redeemable at the Lake Region IGA, have set parameters for those in need. Queen of Peace $55 vouchers provide food for a family of four for a week. A list of items including meat, cereal, milk, bread and other items are included. The Hawley United Methodist Church $25 voucher provides fresh fruit and vegetables plus meat to supplement the diet, as a supplement to the non-perishable foods available at the local food pantries.
The Hawley Rotary raised these funds during their food drive from June 19 thru June 25 at the Lake Region IGA.
Jill Hessling Rotary food drive coordinator and Community Office Manager at Wayne Bank, noted that “there was an unprecedented and very generous number of cash donations from the IGA customers” during the drive.
Over 75 boxes of food also given by IGA customers, and distributed to the food pantries at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hawley, the Paupack United Methodist Church, and the Good Cheer Food Pantry in Greeley.
Steven Bauer, President of the Hawley Rotary Club, said the successful food drive was made possible by the kind assistance of the Lake Region IGA and its employees, the generosity of the IGA customers, and volunteers from the Hawley Rotary, the Hawley Senior Center, and the local food pantry volunteers who gave their time during the drive.
