Employees watching the partial solar eclipse apparently delayed a would-be shoplifter from fleeing at the Honesdale Walmart, Monday afternoon, August 21.

PA State Police, Honesdale, said that at 2:19 p.m., Scott Patrick St. Clair of Beach Lake was reportedly exiting the store through the Garden Center. He had passed the grocery and general merchandise door which were being monitored by employees at the time.

Loss Preventions reported to State Police that St. Clair waited while employees were watching the eclipse at the Garden Center gate. When they were finished and went back inside, he allegedly attempted to leave with a cart of merchandise.

St. Clair was stopped, however, and brought back into Walmart. Trooper Jamison Warner said that charges for Retail Theft were filed with District Court.
