Allen M. Shiffler, 92, of Greentown, died Wednesday August 23, at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care Center. He was the widower of Betty Mae Loomis who preceded him in death in 2006.
Born in Greentown, on May 22, 1925, he was the son of the late Moss and Laura Shiffler. Allen was an Army Veteran. Prior to retirement he was a builder for Gumble Brothers Home and worked at their lumber yard in Newfoundland. He also worked for Camp Pocono Ridge. He was a member of the Rockport Hunting Club, the American Legion and a social member of the Greene-Dreher Fire Company.
When not working or helping others, Allen enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling and square dancing.
He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.
Surviving are: two sons Allen Shiffler and wife Becky and Sam Shiffler; three daughters Linda Shiffler, Peggy Saprona and Jennie Hildebrand and husband Shep; grandchildren Allen Shiffler Jr. and wife Danielle, Ashley Wirth and husband George, Jessie Lee McDonnell and husband Tim, David Michael Shiffler and wife Cat, Scott Allen Smith and wife Shannon, Cody Justin Saprona, Amanda Lee Weaver and husband Lyn, great grandchildren Stephanie Frable, Madison and Morgan Reese, Paige and Addison Shiffler and Blake Wirth and brother William Shiffler.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Simons, Leila Jones and Elsie Wallingford.
A memorial Service will be Saturday, September 9th at 11 a.m. in the Hamlin Bingo Hall 606 PA 590, Hamlin. Interment, Greentown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Commons 504 Penn Ave., Scranton PA 18509.
