Meet the Ambassador
Gonzalez, a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S. State Department, has performed everywhere from the Royal National Theatre in London to Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. His ¡Sofrito! with The Latin Legends Band played to sold-out performances at New York's New Victory Theatre, As If the Past Were Listening was in Lincoln Center Institute’s repertory for three seasons, and he served as the host of "New York Kids" on WNYC for eight seasons.
Mr. Gonzalez's poems and stories explore the quest for cultural identity as they document his personal odyssey, and The Poetic License Band features some of New York City's top session musicians. Together, they mix Afro-Cuban music, sacred chants, mambo-flavored funk grooves, and modern jazz with poetry from the "now moment" of contemporary American Latino culture. Latin Beat Magazine summed up their show as "an amazing spoken-word/Latin jazz production.
