HAWLEY - Walkers, runners, and sponsors are now being sought for the Hawley Public Library’s seventh annual Run-To-Read 5K set for Saturday morning, October 7.

The fifth and final event of the 2017 Wayne County 5 K Challenge, this 5K will begin, rain or shine, at 9 a.m. in Hawley’s Bingham Park. Other 2017 Challenge events have included the Roy Thorpe Memorial 5K, the Dr. William Perkins Memorial 5K, the Habitat for Humanity Run for the Roses, and the Wayne County YMCA 5K Run.

Participants at Hawley will follow a route which takes them along the Lackawaxen River, up Oakland Street, around Green Gates Cemetery and then they will retrace their steps back to the Park and the finish line.
Everyone taking part will receive a tee-shirt and first place overall female and male runners will earn trophies.  Medals will also go to first, second, and third place female and male runners in each category. Walkers will receive ribbons for first, second and third place finishes.

The total of 11 age groups includes: 10 and Under, 11 to 15, 16 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 and over.  Another option for those 10 and Under is the free one-mile Fun Run starting at 8:30 a.m. in the ball field close to the Registration tent.


Pre-registrations at $15.00 are being accepted through Wednesday, October 4.  From then until 8:45 a.m. on 5K day the fee is $18:00 a person.  Registrations are being accepted at the Hawley Library or by going on-line to the Library’s website at www.waynelibraries.org/hawley/hawley.
Everyone in the community is invited to take part in this event, according to Chair Susie George, who notes that it benefits the Hawley Library and the people of Wayne and Pike Counties who use its services. She continues, “Those who do not choose to run or walk can still support the Library by becoming sponsors of the event.”


Sponsorships can be had by contacting the Library at 570-226-4620 or at the Library’s website. Among the Sponsor levels are: Gold ($300 and up), Silver ($200 to $299), Bronze ($100), Family ($50 to $99), and other.  Those who wish to have their names included on the 5K tee-shirts must have their sponsorships in by Monday, September 18. Other sponsorships will be accepted through Friday, October 6.
