STERLING TWP. - A man driving a tractor trailer crashed along PA Route 191 in Sterling Township, Tuesday morning, September 12th. The driver, Robert Cornell Sumpter Sr., age 65 and from Cleveland, OH, died as a result of the crash, PA State Police, Honesdale, reported.

Sumpter was operating a commercial tractor towing a dual-trailer when at 8:47 a.m. the rig crossed over Route 191, Twin Rocks Road from the eastbound off-ramp of Interstate 84.

The tractor trailer entered a wooded area located off the east berm of 191. Before entering the wooded area, the tractor struck an embankment causing the cab to separate from the chassis of the tractor, Trooper Michael Oakes said.

Coroner Edward Howell was dispatched to the scene. Hamlin Fire & Rescue also responded. State Police said that the investigation is ongoing and further information will be made available as it is received. An autopsy was tentatively scheduled for Sept. 13.
