BETHANY - Charlie Gibson, former ABC World News Tonight anchor and co-host of Good Morning America, will be the keynote speaker at Bethany Public Library’s annual fundraising dinner, to be held at the Highlights Foundation’s Conference Center, “The Barn” in Boyds Mills, on Sunday afternoon, November 5 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Gibson’s 34-year career at ABC culminated as anchor of the evening news, but during earlier years he also served as the network’s White House correspondent and as its chief correspondent at the House of Representatives. He interviewed seven presidents—from Nixon to Obama. Gibson retired from broadcasting in 2009.
“We’re honored that Mr. Gibson has agreed to share his past experiences with the folks of Wayne County,” said Jane Bollinger, president of the Bethany Public Library Board of Trustees. “It’s a rare opportunity to meet and listen to someone who has witnessed up close such a wide range of the people and events that help shape our lives.”
The culinary focus of this year’s library fall fundraising dinner will be “Beef and Brew,” with chicken and vegetarian options included, catered by Jill Padua, of Narrowsburg, NY. Also featured will be a selection of specialty-crafted local beers by Irving Cliff Brewery and Here & Now Brewing Company, both of Honesdale, as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
Mark Graziadio of Honesdale National Bank, will host a live auction, showcasing a wide range of unique items of artwork, jewelry, gift certificates for “dinners out,” retreats, locally roasted coffee, a handmade silk/bamboo crocheted shawl, a specially made Christmas holiday wreath, and more.
Tickets cost $65. For information and to purchase tickets, contact Kate Baxter at the Bethany Public Library at 570-253-4349 or Jane Bollinger at 570-253-5711. Seating is limited, and tickets will not be sold at the door, so please call in advance.
