LACKAWAXEN TWP. - Plans are in the works regarding the making of an outdoor recreation area in Woodloch Springs. At a conditional use hearing in September, Lackawaxen Township Solicitor Tom Farley explained that Woodloch Springs wanted to build an outdoor recreation area that would consist of a go-kart and ice-skating pavilion.
Representing Kiley Associates, Attorney Doug Jacobs explained that Woodloch purchased the property a “number of years” ago and over time, there have been improvements that went over property lines and so, it was decided that a lot combination deed was needed, so the tracks of land aren’t combined if the land were to be sold at some point. Farley responded that meant that the “setbacks,” affect a project.
Mitchell Jacobs, an engineer from Kiley Associates explained the plan that consisted of moving the existing go-kart track to another area and once that is done, the existing batting cages will be removed. At that spot, there is a concrete pad, which will then become an ice skating pavilion.
The ice-skating facility, Jacobs described as an “open area pavilion” that will be on the existing concrete pad. The ice skating facility will be usable throughout the year.
Some storm water improvements will be needed Mitchell said. Of the two go-kart tracks, one is for juniors and the second is for seniors. There won’t be an additional track created, just a relocation of the track.
George Korb, the chief engineer at Woodloch Pines explained that to create the ice-skating pavilion the batting cages will be removed and the “open-air pavilion” will be built to have an “arch structure” that’s open on the sides and is usable year-round. The pavilion will have lighting, but no heating. Regular skates can be used on the low friction plastic sheet, which he said is about half an inch thick. Skates will be for rent as well.
At the township meeting, the board of supervisors approved Woodloch Pines’ conditional use application for the outdoor recreation go-kart and ice-skating pavilion.
The next Lackawaxen Township supervisors’ meeting will be Monday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the township offices on Urban Road.
