WALLENPAUPACK - WAHS band students Tuba section leader Alex Coppola and drum major Aiden Cunningham traveled to NYC December 17 to participate in the 44th Annual Tuba Christmas.

Over 500 tuba players (one as far as Vancouver) met at Radio City Hall at 12:30 p.m. to practice Christmas songs. Conductor was Mr. Christian Wilhyem, former conductor of the Goldman Memorial Band. Over 500 tuba and euphonium players from High school students to professional players who had never played together practiced intensely for three hours.

The rink at Rockefeller Center was the setting for their concert at 3:30. Tuba Christmas originated in 1974 at Rockefeller Center in 1974 to honor the memory of William J. Bell, performer and teacher. Tuba Christmas is now celebrated worldwide in different cities around the world.
