HAWLEY - The problem of not having breaks shoveled in the snow piles at the cross walks was raised by Hawley Council member Michael Dougherty at their meeting, February 14.

He said that his seeing eye dog pulls him out to the street to get around the snow. Dougherty noted that if this is an inconvenience for him, it must be for many more people. Monaghan stated the ordinance will be checked, but added that people who live at the corner should take responsibility to make a path to the street.

Herzog noted that the police cited some business owners for not treating icy sidewalks recently. Chief Daniel Drake said that most people follow the rules about taking care of their sidewalks.

He said that the ordinance requires that the walkway be cleared and treated within 12 hours of a storm, within reason. Waiting three days, however, is another matter, Monaghan added.
