WALLENPAUPACK - On Friday, April 6, Wallenpaupack Area School District Career Coordinator Mrs. Colleen Edwards arranged for senior Jessica Vitz to job shadow with Mrs. Deborah Katz, Wallenpaupack North Intermediate school counselor.
Mrs. Katz discussed topics relating to psychology, counseling, and more specifically, crisis counseling. Jessica learned about different methods to help children, including the Student Assistance Program (SAP); this program helps students who are experiencing various difficulties, and the team devises interventions to address student needs.
“Talking with Mrs. Katz opened my mind to the possibility of working with young children,” Jessica said. “Originally, I thought I would be interested in working with teenagers and older students.”
Mrs. Katz commented on the rewards of working in this career field, but also expressed how hard it can be at times. Mrs. Edwards and Jessica are grateful to Mrs. Katz for this informative experience.
