HONESDALE - The public is invited to Central Park on Monday, July 2 for an Independence Day Celebration, presented by the Wayne County Creative Arts Council and the Greater Honesdale Partnership.
Activities are set to start at 6:30 p.m. with activities for children in attendance. There will also be food, crafts, and specialty items sold by local vendors along the street between Central Park and the Court House.
The first performance of the evening will also take place at 6:30 p.m. with music from Doug Smith’s Dixieland All-Stars. The group is known for playing a high-energy mix of patriotic hits, Dixieland Jazz standards, Cajun tunes, and even some recent pop songs. Smith has been a full time musician for over 30 years, with experience performing at jazz festivals, nightclubs, concerts, colleges, and resorts. The band’s lineup features Doug Smith on bass, Tom Whaley on drums, Tom Kozic on guitar, Tom Hamilton on woodwinds, Gary Riner on trombone, and vocalist Erin Malloy.

The next act of the evening will be The Crystal Band, who will begin performing at 8:00 p.m. The all-volunteer community band was originally organized in 1879 and features more than fifty musicians ranging from high school students to senior citizens playing woodwinds, brass, percussion.
The band is directed by Doreen Hughes Ignatovich and will be performing a variety of patriotic, pops, Broadway, light classical and Big Band music, including songs by John Phillip Sousa. For more information about The Crystal band, please visit www.crystalband.com.
The evening will conclude with a fireworks display that will be launched from Irving Cliff, courtesy of the Greater Honesdale Partnership.
In the case of inclement weather, there is a rain date set for Friday, July 6. This is a free event but donations will be collected throughout the evening.
