Toddler swimming lessons will be something new at the Palmyra Township Public Beach this summer.

PALMYRA TWP. (Pike) - Toddler swimming lessons will be something new at the Palmyra Township Public Beach this summer.

Vicki Waldron, the swimming lesson manager, had the idea after receiving requests for teaching young children, said Jo-Ann Rose, Township Administrator, at the June 19th supervisors’ meeting.

Lessons will be provided for ages 2-1/2 to 3 years of age, in 15 minute private lessons following the end of the regular swim lessons. This is at the end of the day when the water is warmer.

The supervisors agreed to a price of $30.00 for a two week package.

Three people are interested at this time, Rose noted.

The public beach is open seven days a week, weather permitting, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There is a schedule of fees. The beach is located behind the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitor’s Center and is adjacent to the Wallenpaupack Lake Trail that leads from the Tafton Dike to the Wallenpaupack Creek Trail at the power company dam.

Information about swim lessons at the public beach is available by calling 570-226-9290 or the township office at 570-226-2230.

Two lifeguards returning to the beach this summer, were hired back.

Palmyra Township supervisors meet on the first and third Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the offices off Gumbletown Road.
