The Wallenpaupack Area South Elementary School Second Grade will present their annual music program on Thursday, April 10 in the school's cafetorium.
The patriotic opening includes the entire assembly saluting our flag and singing our National Anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner" followed by the Wallenpaupack Area School District's Alma Mater.
The first song, “Our School Song” by composer Jill Gallina is very special. Gallina has written this song for and dedicated it to the children, faculty and staff of Wallenpaupack South Elementary School. Next is a selection of songs from the Gallina collection "Two for the Show" which sings of the joys of friendship. Songs are: "Two for the Show," "Copycat Rag," "Two's for Havin' Fun," "Mirror, Mirror," "Texas Tango" and "I Can Do It Too!"
Our tango dancers are Jacob Peet and Abigail Ladner and our own Tavalsky twins, Justin and Thomas, will be mirror images for "Mirror, Mirror!"
Abigail Ladner says "it was hard to learn the dance at first, but now I know it!" MacBrennan Peet is the copycat soloist for "Copycat Rag" and "I Can Do It." "I'm singing two songs that sound like the game Simon Says," MacBrennan says.
Our friendship theme continues with Charlotte Diamond's "Each of Us Is a Flower" and Judith Thomas' "It's a Beautiful Day Today" both sung in two-part harmony. The children's favorite "It's Me!" by Carmino Ravosa and "I Care About Being Me" by Ned Ginsburg and Jeff Sorg follow. "Now That We're Friends" by Marti Lunn and Lois Brownsey and Lunn and Brownsey's "That's What I Call a Friend" are from their songbook collections "The Big Yellow School Bus" and "Here Comes the New Year." The American Action Song "Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree" will bring fun and smiles to the stage and maybe some confusion as the children substitute actions for words! "Make New Friends" will have the children singing it as the traditional round. The popular song "We've Got Lots in Common" is from the perennial favorite "Charlotte's Web" by the Sherman brothers.
For the song "I'm Flying Home" the children sing new verses about local places to fly over from the Avoca and Pocono airports including Newfoundland's school, Greentown, Sterling, Canadensis, Promised Land, Sky Top Lodge and Paupack Lake.
The show ends with the beautiful song and an important message "Make a Rainbow" by Portia Nelson.
Show time is 7 pm in the South School's Cafetorium under the direction of Jean M. Shields, music teacher. Principal Nancy Simon, PhEd, says, “The public is invited to attend.”
