The Sixth Grade Chorus of Wallenpaupack Area South Elementary School will present their annual spring concert Thursday, May 15, 7 pm in the south's cafetorium. The chorus will sing a variety of seasonal and popular songs in unison and harmony.

The evening begins with the chorus members entering the performing space through the audience singing the popular Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh "Hey, Look Me Over," arranged by Carol Strommen. The chorus sings hello to the audience in a variety of languages with the clever song "'Hello' from Around the World" by Marti and David Lantz. Greg Gilpin's humorous arrangement of the traditional children's song "This Ol' Man" has the men of the chorus as our own "square dancers!" Students and audience are introduced to the well-known Pennsylvania-born composer Stephen Foster with "Some Folks Do" arranged by Jill Gallina.

Students who participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 9 "Songfest" at Abington Heights High School on May 2, which brought together over 300 young singers from surrounding school districts, will be recognized. The "Songfest" singers are: Alxis Boyle, Olivia Clause, Hope Decker, Emily Peet and Billy Reese. Emily Peet said, "I had a great time at Songfest!" Olivia Clause said, "I enjoyed singing together with 300 other singers."

The show continues with the exquisite peace song, "Dona Nobis" by Mary Lynn Lightfoot. The Latin words translate "Give Us Peace." This is followed by the beautiful Gallina song "The Best That I Can Be," a favorite with the singers! The novelty song, "Yankee Doodle", adapted by Jennings is sure to bring smiles to faces and the scat song "I Like to Sing" arranged by Paul Jennings introduces the students to this jazz vocal style and has a touch of "Show Choir" choreography. The audience will then move from the cafetorium to the gymnasium for the band concert.

The members of the choir are: Leighana Anolfo, Krystal Ayers, Alxis Boyle, Olivia Clause, Hope Decker, Albert DesChenes, Brittany Grimmer, Nikole Harlin, Jessica Hoppenstedt, Ali Johnson, Angelia Migliaccio, Emily Peet, Luis Quinones, Billy Reese, Kristina Roy, Alex Savignano, Laura Sorenson, Danielle Spewak and Tyler White. Jean M. Shields, choral director, and Principal Nancy Simon, EdD, invite everyone to this evening of music.
