600 Pound Bear Killed

Raymond Carl Kresge Sr., 66, of Gouldsboro, Wayne County was found guilty of unlawfully possessing a 600-pound male black bear, according to Pennsylvania Game Commission Wildlife Conservation Officer (WCO) Jim McCarthy, who investigated the case and filed the charges on June 21. District Judge Bonnie L. Carney, of Hawley, fined Kresge $1,500 plus and costs of the conducting DNA analysis.
 

Jewelry swiped from Pike County home

State Police, Blooming Grove investigated a burglary at 147 Gold Rush Drive, Hemlock Farms. The report issued August 20th indicated that the crime occurred July 13.
Between 6 and 9:15 p.m., someone gained entry into the house through a locked, front door. Once inside, numerous pieces of jewelry were stolen.
The investigation is continuing, said Trooper Brian Roberts. Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police at 226-5718.

Hawley police nab driver after Honesdale hit & run

 A passing motorist observed a tractor trailer that was towing an excavator strike and damage the new curbing on the 4th Street bridge in Honesdale. The motorist’s information was relayed to Hawley Police Department who stopped the motor carrier vehicle as it passed through their town.

Woman, 71, jailed for shooting husband

State Police, Blooming Grove, report the arrest of Jacqueline Grogan, 71, of Milford, for shooting and injuring her husband during a domestic dispute, Friday night July 30th.

Theft at sewer plant site

On Monday July 26th, a theft was reported to Honesdale Borough Police Department. An employee of Howard Robson Inc., currently working on the Honesdale Sewer Plant project, reported that a Stihl demolition saw with a 14” blade was stolen from the work site sometime between Thursday July 22nd and Monday July -26th. Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 253-1900.

Liquor Control sends undercover youth

Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement announced that age compliance checks were conducted at various  licensed establishments in Wayne and Pike counties, Tuesday, July 27. Supervised underage buyers are used to see if they are able to purchase alcoholic beverages....

ATVs stolen from shed

ATVs were stolen from two storage sheds on a property on Overlook Drive, Sunrise Lake development, Dingman Township. Between July 7 and July 24, unknown persons entered the shed by force, said Trooper Varcoe. Taken were two 2001 Yamaha Kodiak 400 ATVs, each green in color.
One had a VIN of #JY4AJ03Y61A003952 and the other had a VIN of #JY4AJ03Y01C009962.

State Police in Honesdale are investigating the theft of a vehicle in Hawley.

Water bottles thrown at car

An arrest was made Friday, July 23, after multiple water bottles were thrown from a vehicle, ant another following behind.

Burglary at Pocono Mt. Woodland Lakes

 Unknown persons entered a house on Tamarack Drive, Pocono Mountain Woodland Lakes, Dingman Township, Saturday, July 24. The burglary took place in broad daylight, between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
They entered by unknown means and removed several pieces of jewelry from a  bedroom, said Trooper Kevin Varcoe.

Woman pinned by vehicle

State Police, Honesdale, said that aggravated assault charges are pending an investigation into an incident where a woman was struck by a vehicle, pinning her against a building, Tuesday.

False report at ER

On July 1 Honesdale Police responded to the emergency room at Wayne Memorial Hospital for a report of a woman who was assaulted at Central Park.  An investigation discovered that no assault took place. The 23 year old woman, Ashley Colucci of Honesdale, was arrested for filing a false report to law enforcement authorities, a misdemeanor.  A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for August 4th before District Judge Ted Mikulak. Lt. Witt and Ptlm. Kominski were the investigating officers.

Purse taken from Millon’s Laundromat

Honesdale Borough Police are investigating the theft of money and a cell phone from a person who was at the Millon’s Laundromat at approximately 3:30 p.m. on July 3rd.

Arrest made after children tormented

State Police, Honesdale, report that an intoxicated male was arrested after he was allegedly tormenting children at the Paupacken Lake Estates beach area, July 5th.
Witnesses identified the person. Scott Pernal, 48, of Hawley, was subsequently arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness. The incident was at 5:10 p.m. Trooper Michael Jezercak is investigating.

Blooming Grove troopers promoted

Two Pa. State Police troopers, Troop R at Blooming Grove have been promoted to corporal, Commissioner Frank E. Pawlowski announced. They are:
• David M. Hahn of Moscow, who enlisted with the Pa. State Police in 1991;
• Scott R. Walck of Throop, who enlisted in 1992.

Neighbor’s daughter cited after assault

State Police, Honesdale, responded to an address on Tuthill Road, South Canaan Township, where the victims related that they were assaulted by the neighbor’s daughter, July 4th. This was at 4:30 p.m.

ALERT: Boat on fire, on Lake Wallenpaupack

Tafton Fire & Rescue was called out at 4:26 p.m. Friday for a boat on fire, on Lake Wallenpaupack.

According to early dispatches, the boat was about 100 feet from shore off Spindler's Point. The occupant(s) were rescued by another boater, and there were no reported injuries.

Hawley Fire Department and Hawley Ambulance were requested to assist, at 4:46 p.m. Some units were being cancelled at 4:58 p.m.

Theft reported at building site

A theft was reported, at a home construction site at Waters Way Edge, Sunset Harbor development in Palmyra Township (Pike).

Motorcyle operator killed

State Police, Honesdale, are reporting the death of a male motorcyclist that took place early Thursday morning in Canaan Township.

Bates back in court for Tim Wood’s death, arson

Susan Bates had tears in her eyes as she was escorted by State Police out of the Court Street entrance of the Wayne County Courthouse on Wednesday to face charges in the homicide of a Texas Township man last month.
