Steel valued at $296,887 stolen

A superintendent working for the contractor on the Tennessee Gas Pipeline project has been arrested for the theft of nearly $300,000 worth of steel plates.
According to State Police, Honesdale barracks, George Robert Doll, 58 of Yale, OK, took 61 steel road plates and sold them. The value of the steel was given to be $296,887.
The plates, each one measuring 8’x20’x1”, were taken gradually, between June 1 and November 22, 2011.
The plates were stolen from a prep site along Bayly Road off Route 652, Berlin Township, set up by Henkels & McCoy Inc., Blue Bell, Texas. Doll was a superintendent for Henkles & McCoy Inc., wrking on the Tennessee Gas 300 Line project.
Trooper Michael Joyce said that Doll sold the steel plates as his own to a scrap dealer.
Doll was charged with Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, and Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Funds Received. He was arraigned before Magistrate District Judge Ted Mikulak on Jan. 31 and was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
Tennessee was laying parallel pipeline along their right-of-way between Uniondale in Susquehanna County through Wayne and Pike counties. The pupose is to expand conveyance capacity, needed by the expected increase in gas supplies from drilling the Marcellus Shale. The parent company, El Paso Corporation, announced Nov. 1 that the project was completed.
Copper pipe taken
In a separate incident, one or more intruders broke into a Paupack Towmship residence last week and stole copper tubing and two handguns.
Trooper Joyce said that the burglary occurred on Goose Pond Road, sometime between January 25 and January 31. The burglar enteredthe house by breaking a window on the east side of the bassement.
Once inside, copper pipe that was exposed was cut and two handguns were stolen from a cabinet in the dining room.

Strikeforce planned
Motorists who drink alcohol and drive, beware. State Police, BloomingGrove has announced a sobriety checkpoint over the weekend of Feb. 3-6 at certain locations in Pike County.
Called a “Strikeforce,” troopers will systematically stop vehcles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers forarticulable facts and/or behaviors normallyassociated with alcohol or drug imapired drivers.
Cpl. Bauer said that the goal is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related fatla an dserious carshes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania’s highways.
“The PA State Police is committed to maintaining a safe environment for the motoring public,” Cpl. Bauer said. “The above mentioned sobriety checkpoint is intended to achieve the goal.”
Crash
On Jan. 31 around 1:44 a.m. a crash occurred in Palmyra Township, Pike County. The driver of a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south on SR 507 near Sunset Forest Drive.
The driver failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway and traveled onto the right shoulder. The vehicle then traveled across both lanes of travel and struck a rock embankment located off the east shoulder of the roadway. The Jetta came to final rest in the northbound lane of SR 507 facing east.
The driver was not injured and the vehicle was towed from the scene by Northeast Towing. Excessive speed is to blame for the crash and the driver will be cited, said Trooper Mark Pajalich.
