Blooming Grove, Pa. -

A Lackawaxen woman was killed when the van she was a passenger in hit a tree Tuesday night.

PA State Police Trooper Kevin Varcoe said Sarah George, 21, was pronounced dead by Pike County Coroner Kevin Stroyan at the scene after the one-vehicle accident.

Varcoe reports Cassandra George, 18, Lackawaxen, was driving east on SR 434 in a 1999 Chevrolet Astrovan when she glanced away from the roadway for a moment and lost control of the van. The van left the road for about 45 feet before hitting a tree with the front passenger side. The van came to rest facing south.

Sarah George was the front seat passenger in the vehicle.

Passengers Dianna George, 47, and a five-year-old boy, both of Lackawaxen, and Cassandra George were lifeflighted to CMC Hospital in Scranton for unknown injuries. The four adults were wearing seatbelts and the boy was in a carseat at the time of the accident.

Varcoe said the investigation into the accident is continuing.
