Blooming Grove, Pa. -

If you're a politician, or thinking about running for office someday, and if you're wish to place political signs in Blooming Grove, you're going to have to follow the Township’s new and restrictive Zoning Ordinance.

During Monday evening regular bi-monthly business meeting, the Board of Supervisors repealed, in its entirely, section 418.15 of its Zoning Ordinance and replaced it with a totally new one.

The new Section 418.5 - Political Signs, became effective Monday evening, with the following new regulations:

• The erection of political signs within Township boundaries will require permission from all property owners which the signs are to be located;

• Shall complete and submit to the Township’s Zoning/Code Enforcement Officer, a written “Consent to Display Form,” in which the name, address, telephone number and e-mail addresses of the individual, organization or entity that is responsible for the erection, placement and removal of the political signs, and identification of the political signs and the addresses of each property on which the signs are to be placed;

• No more than two signs from the same candidate shall be posted on properties;

• The signs cannot be larger that 32 square feet in size and must be located from a minimum of five feet from the edge of the macadam or curb line of any public or private road, and shall not create a traffic hazard;

• No political signs are allowed on any public property (federal, state, county or municipality);

• Signs cannot be erected or attached to any trees, utility poles, fences, guiderails, buildings or other structures;

• Political signs cannot be erected until six months before election;

• And any political signs erected in violation of this ordinance shall be subject to removal by the Township Zoning/Code Enforcement Officer.

In other business, the Board:

• Lifted the Burning Ban;

• Received a report from the Pike County Corrections Facility from ICE;

• Provided five building permits and eight zoning permits for a total of $1213.29;

• Received its first agenda and minutes from the joint meeting of Blooming Grove and Hemlock Farms Volunteer Fire companies; and

• Reported only 20 people responded to the Township’s recently held Spring Cleanup Day.

The Blooming Grove Supervisors meet at 7 pm on the first and third Mondays of each month at the Municipal Building, Rt. 739, Lords Valley. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 19.
