Hawley Borough officials arrived Monday morning to find the Borough Building filled with smoke.

Hawley Fire Department and two other fire companies were toned out to battle the fire shortly before 9 am.

Smoke filled the Borough Offices when Council Member Dee Sabatino arrived to drop off something. She said staff in the Magistrate’s office could smell smoke when they arrived but thought the smell was coming from someone burning outside.

Firefighters were working to vent the roof and access the ceiling to find the source.
