Public Hearing Set for New Hamlin School

A public hearing will be held in the board room of the Western Wayne District Office, Route 296 in South Canaan, on Thursday May 8 at 7 p.m. to review all relevant matters relating to the planning, design, construction, and equipping of South Elementary School proposed to be built in Hamlin.

The hearing is in accordance with Act 34 of 1973 and Part D: Project Accounting Based on Estimates, as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
A description of the project, including facts with respect to educational, physical, administrative, budgetary and related fiscal matters  will be presented and will be available at the public hearing. The booklet is available during business hours of the School District at the Western Wayne District Administrative Office, 2132 Easton Turnpike, South Canaan..

The School Board, by resolution duly adopted, has authorized a "maximum project cost" of $22,874,411 and a "maximum building construction cost" of $17,001,545 in connection with the project.

All residents are invited to attend. Anyone wishing agenda time, or wishing to submit written testimony or both, should contact the office of  Superintendent Andrew Falonk until 12 noon May 8, for the express purpose of being placed on the agenda for the hearing in question. Oral presentation will be limited to three minutes. If a person desires to speak longer than three minutes, he or. she will be given the chance to return to the podium after all others who wish to speak have had one chance.

Additional sign-in sheets will be available at time of the hearing. The Board will call upon individuals signing such sign-in sheets in the order in which they appear.
Interested persons also may submit letters of written testimony to the Secretary of the Board of School Directors at the School District's administrative offices until 12:00 pm, June 9, 2008.

The new school will replace both the existing Hamlin Elementary School and Lake Ariel Elementary School, and is scheduled to be open for the fall semester of 2009. The approximately 36 acre site for the school along the west side of Route 191 north of Hamlin Corners, and is currently owned by Cesar Pifano.
