Supervisors are applying for a grant to purchase a trailer for its Emergency Management.
Vic Panzella, Jr., township EMA coordinator, announced that the township is seeking a grant to purchasefrom PPL and Suburban Propane for the purchase of a new 8 x 10 foot single axle trailer for the purpose of containing level B exposure equipment, medical equipment, emergency road signs, etc.
He is also seeking another grant to outfit the trailer. The EMA support unit would be available for the western portion of the county.
Panzella also announced that the township EMA is seeking a grant from The Dime Bank in the amount of $1,000 to print Emergency Preparedness information.
After the grant is received, he plans to provide a public safety/emergency preparedness education program to the sixth grade at Wallenpaupack Area South Elementary School.
Dutch’s Market has agreed to assist the EMA during any emergency, Panzella added.
Panzella also noted that 13 members of the township EMA received basic first aid certification. Basic CPR training is planned Tuesday, July 22, 6:30 pm at the municipal building.
TOWNSHIP DRILL
The EMA is planning a township wide drill in September. The drill may involve 90-100 people including mock victims, utilizing a triage, shelter, mass feeding, and command post. The drill is expected to be followed by a critique and picnic.
Panzella also shared that 75-80% of EMA are connected to the fire and ambulance corps. “I am looking for those willing to serve and willing to receive some basic training and are not affiliated with fire or ambulance” he added.
The township has a “great EMA team,” Hubbard said.
COLLECT LIEN
The estate of Miss Crocker is obligated to pay $11,000 that was paid to the contractor to clean the property, according to court order, Solicitor Jeffrey Treat said.
“I will send a letter to Mr. David Lipe, estate executer, to address the administration of the estate and claims against the estate,” he said.
Lipe, in the meeting, offered the township $1,000 to settle the claim. Lipe also claimed that when the township cleaned the property, equipment such as an excavator and coal conveyor belt was removed.
NEED SETBACK PERMIT
A letter was sent early January 31 to Lipe concerning a shed installed on the lot without obtaining a setback permit, Karl Frigoni, setback officer, reported. No permit has yet been obtained.
“The shed is replacing a building that was torn down by the township in same foot print,” Lipe replied.
“Meet with the setback officer to apply for the setback permit,” Treat advised Lipe.
GAS DRILLING
Bill Obert suggested that any property owner approached for gas well drilling should seek advice from the Conservation District or attorney. Solicitor Jeffrey Treat noted that sediment and materials that are extracted, liability insurance can be major issues.
The supervisors administered the oath of office for fire police for Debbie Crockett.
Ray Harinec, sign officer, reminded the residents that yard sale signs must have a permit.
A number of condemned structures have been removed or are repaired in Promised Land and throughout the township, Frigoni reported.
The Greene Township Supervisors meet 7 pm on the first Wednesday of every month at the Township building on Brink Hill Road.
