The Pike County Economic Development Authority is offering a number of fantastic seminar programs for the business community this year. Scheduled programs for the remainder of the first quarter of 2011 include:
• First Steps to Opening a Business – Tuesday, February 22nd 6 – 8 PM
• Solving the Mystery of Business Taxes – Friday, March 18th 2- 4 PM
First Steps to Opening a Business is being offered at no charge in February in honor of National Entrepreneurship Week. The program is open to the public but advance registration is required. EDA Deputy Director Rachel Hendricks commented, “We are very excited to offer First Steps in Pike County as an evening program for people who are considering becoming an entrepreneur. It opens participation to those who may be working during the day but dream of going into business for themselves. Expanding awareness of the opportunity to become an entrepreneur is what National Entrepreneurship Week is all about.”
Solving the Mystery of Business Taxes is being offered just in time for tax preparation in March. Local accountant Paul Brislin will provide an overview of topics including: tax and bookkeeping issues for sole proprietors, partnerships, LLCs, and corporations, business tax deductions, fixed assets and depreciation, compiling information for your accountant, employment taxes, and home-based business considerations. The cost to attend this program is $15.
Except as noted, these seminars will be held at the offices of the Pike County Economic Development Authority at 209 East Harford Street in Milford and offered in partnership with the University of Scranton Small Business Development Center. To register for one of these events, call 296-7332 or email Tammy@edapikepa.org.
