The Friends of the Hawley Public Library have opened 2010 by presenting a check for $5,000 to the facility.
“This sum represents the funds accumulated during 2009 through our fundraisers and member dues,” according to Lynn Gavula, Friends president. She noted that the Friends also funded the 2009 Winterfest programs at the Library with an additional $1,000 donation.
Among the Friends fundraisers have been their ongoing Used Book Sales both at the Library and on Amazon as well as the recent Quilt Raffle.
These donations are in addition to two other Friends gifts of $5,000 each given to the Library since the group’s founding in June 2007.
As she received the check, Library Board President Mary Anne Teeter expressed the thanks of the Library and its Board of Directors saying, “We are so very grateful to the Friends for their strong, consistent support of our Library and its services to the Lake Region community. Their efforts on behalf of the Hawley Library are helping us to ensure that, even in these difficult times, we are able to continue our mission of serving the public.”
