A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Grace Gillespie Hall, resident of Ponca City, OK, who died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Ponca City. She was 94. She married Janion "Jack" Hall on Dec. 24, 1939 in Pittston, and was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years.
Born on Thursday, August 21, 1913 in Pittston, to the late Francis Patrick Gillespie and the late Mary Alice (Wegge) Gillespie, she attended boarding school along with her twin sister Katharine at Marywood, Scranton. She went to Marywood Seminary and graduated from Marywood College, Scranton, in June 1935 with a B.A. degree. They resided in Paupack on a farm on which she lived all of her life. She was employed by the Wallenpaupack Area School District as a teacher for 29 years. She never missed a day of teaching. Grace moved to Ponca City to live with her daughter in 1997. The family visited the farm each summer. She will be remembered for her undefeatable spirit, her love of people, and her inordinate sense of fun, reads a family statement.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Grace Yates; two granddaughters, Grace Katharine Yates Davis and husband, Court Davis of Ponca City and Anne Elizabeth Yates of Bath, England and great-grandson, John Michael Davis; and a sister-in-law, Adaline Gumble Schumacher of Ponca City.
She was preceded in death by a brother Frank; and her twin sister, Katharine Hennigan.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 10, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Michalicka Celebrant of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating.
Interment, Pine Grove Cemetery in Paupack.
The family greeted friends at on Sunday, March 9 and at the Teeters Funeral Home in Hawley on Wednesday, March 12.
