Hawley, Pa. -

Services will be held Saturday for Viola Rose Deane who died suddenly at her peaceful home by the lake on Friday, May 15, 2009.

Born in Paupack, on September 24, 1926, to the late Charles and Esther Singer Gumble, she was always proud of her family’s history and heritage as founding families of Gumbletown, PA.  Being a Singer-Gumble and a life-long resident of the Paupack-Hawley area, she knew and was loved by many extended family members and friends.

After marrying the boy next door, William J. Bomba, raising two girls (Gail Winterbottom and Karen Nori) and helping run the family business, she was widowed at age 45. She went onto a successful career in sales for Equitable Life Assurance Company. She retired after marrying Robert Deane, a retired Philadelphia business well-known in the area as a summer resident. They continued to reside in the Paupack-Hawley area.

Her love of antique glassware, love of family and dear friends fulfilled her life. And she never lacked for places to go and things to do. She also loved to travel and took many family vacations with her daughter, Gail and husband, Jim, James and Keelyn across the country and Canada.

Surviving are her daughter: Gail Winterbottom and her husband James of Catonsville, MD, and most recently Langhorne; a grandson: James Winterbottom of Catonsville, MD; a granddaughter: Keelyn Nori of Rochester, NY; her one remaining sister: Esther Balanovich of Liberty, NY; a stepson: Robert F. Deane Jr. and his wife Verna; a step-daughter: Pat Deane Fitzpatrick; and four stepgrandchildren.

Mrs. Deane was predeceased by her husbands: William J. Bomba and Robert F. Deane; her daughter: Karen Bomba Nori; three sisters: Florence Gumble, June Schroeder and Lois Wilmot; and three brothers: Charles, Donald and Richard Gumble.
