A Funeral Mass will be held for Mildred “Lucky” (Pliscott) Furgele, 75, Lakeville, who died March 9, 2008 at her home, following an illness. Her husband of 54 years, Frank J. Furgele survives. The couple would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in July.
Born in Exeter, she was the daughter of the late Ernest C. Pliscott and Regina Bean. A graduate of Exeter High School, Bloomsburg State Teachers College with a BS in Elementary Education and Speech, she completed graduate studies at West Chester State College. She began teaching in Centennial Schools, Buck County and later organized and supervised a nursery and pre-school in Richboro. Upon moving to Lakeville, she substituted and served part-time as a speech therapist for Intermediate Unit 19; organized the annual Sandy Shore Golf Tournament for 15 years and was co-chair of the Welcoming Committee; was a long-time member of the Locust Grove Assoc. Board of Directors; was a former member of the Hawley Woman’s Club; and she conducted many fund raising events for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends, a family statement reads. She will be remembered for her heartfelt smile, great sense of humor and determination. Lucky was an inspiration to all who knew her because she saw the good in everyone. She was a member of the BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, Hawley. She was a devoted Catholic and active in the BVM Parish as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion; and has initiated and organized the post funeral luncheon program; served as a member of the Baptismal Seminar Team; member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Catholic Outreach program.
Also surviving are two sons, John and wife, Kathie, Glen Mills and James and wife, Jill, Ambler; a daughter-in-law, Regina Goggins, Wilmington, DE; grandsons, John, Michael, Matthew and Jacob; granddaughters, Frankie and Emily; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a son, Frank Jr., a daughter Dawn Goggins, a son-in-law, Michael Goggins, and two brothers, Ernest and Fred Pliscott.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 15, 10 am in the BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, 319 Chestnut Ave., with the Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor, officiating.
Internment is private at B.V.M. Queen of Peace Cemetery, Hawley at the family’s convenience.
