John Roethel, 87, of Arden, Delaware and formerly of Hawley, and Glendale, Queens, NY, died Monday, May 18, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline (Eppich) Roethel.
Mr. Roethel was born January 19, 1922 in Gottschee, Austria and was the son of the late Frank and Florence (Schaffer) Roethel.
He was a carpenter and former member and treasurer of Beekeepers’ Assoc. and former member Palmyra-Wayne Planning Commission.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: one daughter and son-in-law, Ericka Roethel Walker and Clint Walker of Wilmington, DE; and a granddaughter, Katie of Escondido, CA.
He was deceased by a son, Charles and two brothers, S/Sgt. Frank and S/Sgt. Karl, who were both decorated with silver star and purple hearts.
Calling hours will be Monday, May 25, from 3 to 6 pm at Teeters’ East Chapel, Inc., 505 Church St, Hawley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Tuesday, May 26, at 10 am at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor.
Burial will be in B.V.M. Queen Of Peace Cemetery, Hawley.
