Coroner Lienert not seeking new term

I am writing to you today to officially notify you that I will not be seeking the next term as Wayne County Coroner.  My 2nd term in office ends January 1, 2012.  This has been a very difficult and personal decision.

Big Buck winner says thanks

I just wanted to send a quick note to everyone at the News Eagle/Wayne Independent to say thank you.

A Hawley lament

Each evening as the Sun goes down, I gaze across the hills
And wonder at the changing Hues, theValleys and the Rills
The Ski Slope stands in the distance
Covered in its mantle of white
Voices barely heard echoing in the night
And it is nice...

Shohola Twp. conflict of interest: Defined

When George Fluhr was elected supervisor, he had the Walls removed from many positions in the town stating there was a large conflict of interest with so many positions being held by family members. It seems that he has now replaced the Wall family with the Myers Family.

Per Shohola Supervisors: Less Fire Protection

To my utter dismay and disappointment, the proposal for a half mil tax increase for Shohola Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue was denied by the Shohola Supervisors at the last general meeting on the basis that we, as a fire department, spend too much money. On that note, let us look at how our money is going to be spent regardless of a tax increase.

CDD'S vital services depend on your support

CDD (Center for Developmental Disabilities), a Pike County based 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide, free of charge, quality, diversified support services to children (birth to age 5) with developmental disabilities and delays, has commenced its 2010 Annual Appeal Campaign.

Happy memories of Hawley

A friend clipped, just part of the story, the report of the "Hawley Star."
I missed its creation by two years as with Jim Gelatt and several other Hawley High School graduates I had joined the Air Force in 1956.  Following discharge from the USAF I never really moved back to Hawley or any part of Pike or Wayne Counties.   My family, who first  entered Pike and Wayne shortly after the danger of Indian attack had abated, have, with my generation, moved to softer ground, to places with fertile soil and without stone walls.

Bookmark project appreciated

Carney playing politics

I have recently received a political advertisement in the mail from Congressman Camey stating that Tom Marino wants to end Social Security.

Marino best choice for veterans in Congress race

Tom Marino is and has been committed to Public Service and Country all of his adult life.

Corbett claims ‘jobs are out there’

Attorney General Tom Corbett believes the “jobs are there”. Oh, really. Tell that to the unemployed of Pike County where according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment was 10.4% in May, 2010 for a 1.1% INCREASE in unemployment since May, 2009.

Don’t let impaired driving ruin this holiday

Last year the Pennsylvania State Police arrested 16,156 people for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and or Drugs. Although alcohol is the intoxicant most often responsible for impaired driving, it's not the only one that renders individuals incapable of safely operating a vehicle.
