- On Saturday, August 18, 2012, US Armed Forces personnel and veterans who served in the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan were given a special tribute by the American Legion Post 311 Ladies Auxiliary. A parade stepped off at 12 noon on Church Street, followed by a ceremony and block party outside Post 311 headquarters. Pictured are members of the PA National Guard Company A 109th Infantry 1st Battalion (mech) based in Honesdale.Two Gold Star Mothers were honored; first on the video is Janet Bowen, whose son SSG Paul A. Sweeney of Lakeville was killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2003, and Mary Beisel, whoe son LCpl Jacob Beisel of Lackawaxen was killed in action in Iraq in 2006.
