Hawley, Pa. -

Even with the 4-0 loss on Tuesday to Scranton Prep, the Bucks are still sitting on top of the Lackawanna League Division One Standings with a record of 9-3. Scranton Prep improved to 8-4 in their second win of the year over the Buckhorn Pride and West Scranton is in second place at 8-3.

The Bucks just couldn’t seem to get rolling on Tuesday and fell behind early to the visiting team from the Electric City. After the top half of the first at bat for the Cavaliers, it was a two nothing deficit that they would never make up.

Prep got things started in the first inning when Colin Tansits ripped a worm-burner single up the middle past a diving Corey Capone and Pat Camuso that scampered into the outfield grass. Then Mark Grambo drove a shot to the right field fence that landed him on third for an RBI that scored Tansits. Bryan Calabro kept things moving for the Cavs when he hit a dribbler that forced pitcher Ryan Loughran to chase it down and make the throw to first that came up just inches short on getting the out. In the process Grambo touched home plate. Chris Ortiz, playing catcher for the Bucks, made a nice throw to Capone on second to catch Calabro stealing and stop any further damage from occurring.

Prep’s pitcher, Stephen Arcure, was on fire most of the day and struck out 14 before it was all said and done and at one point the Bucks went down swinging seven consecutive times between the second, third, and fourth innings.

Corey Linden, the ‘Paupack third baseman, did manage a hit in the bottom half of the first, but it was all they would get until the sixth inning when Joe DeFebo blasted a shot that came up only a few feet short from going over the fence. The shot landed DeFebo on second with a stand-up double. A few pitches later DeFebo was caught in the base path between second and third, and eventually tagged out, deflating the Buck’s chance of a rally.

Kevin Hendrickson recorded the only other hit for the Purple Pride when he knocked a base-hit single in the seventh with two outs. Hendrickson was left stranded on base when the final out was recorded.

Loughran started the day on the mound for ‘Paupack, but Head Coach Bob McGinnis made six pitching changes throughout the game with Nick DeFebo coming in from center field on three different occasion. DeFebo came in for relief in the third, fourth and sixth inning and collected six whiffs on the ten batters he faced. Ian Dassance and Tim Silsby each took the mound with Dassance striking out two Cavalier batters.

Prep collected 11 hits on the day with Grambo, Tansits, Nolan Harrington and Adam Schroth all racking up pair a piece.

Softball Action

The Bucks hosted Scranton Prep looking for their first win of the year and came up short losing to the Lady Cavs 7-1.

Wallenpaupack collected six hits in the losing effort on the diamond with Cathy Mariaschin racking up two. Lori Marino scored the run for the Bucks and smacked a double.

Prep’s Kayla Prompovitch hit a two-run homer for her only hit on the day. Rae Sarahs had two hits in the contest.

Prep improved to 4-8 on the season and ‘Paupack dropped to 0-12.
